Speech by Cheah Kok Hoong, PIKOM Chairman
PIKOM Training Centre
1 April 2014
Welcome PIKOM members, CIOs and guests. Thank you for attending today’s session.
The response is overwhelming which is either good news or bad news. The good news is we are all eager and preparing for the implementation of GST. The bad news, well, we have no clue how to get started.
That is PIKOM’s role. To help you along the right path towards readiness and compliance for the implementation of GST come 1 April 2015, which is exactly one year away.
You will hear from the experts in the field with officers from Royal Malaysian Customs and BDO. There will also be a panel discussion where IT providers and users will share what they have done to prepare for GST.
Talking about preparing. In preparation for this seminar, PIKOM conducted a survey among members on their awareness and understanding of the proposed GST.
Most would have some awareness of GST already but when we dive deeper on their readiness, much more needs to be done.
I have advocated and spoken in the past on the need for more incentives to help businesses especially SMEs navigate their way to GST readiness and compliance. Do make use of the funding available from the government which RM 250 million is available.
We hope you find this useful and if needed, PIKOM will continue to organize sessions like this in preparation for GST.
My thanks to representative from Customs and BDO together with the panel speakers. Our appreciation to Mr Woon Tai Hai, PIKOM Research Committee chair for making this happen.
Have a productive session.
